Watch the Water Path as Ice Builds

Ice cascading is one of the most common winter problems we hear about. Splashing water can freeze overnight, building a new path that directs water outside the pond or stream. Water loss can then create problems for pumps and plumbing.

Pay extra attention after very cold nights and major snow, rain, or wind events. If the level drops or flow changes, contact us early so we can discuss the situation and scheduling.

A Holladay winter service visit

Finding an Unexpected Heating System Beneath the Ice

At a Holladay stream and waterfall with a hidden pump basin, freezing had prevented water from returning to the basin. We had not built the feature and initially suspected a blockage from leaves and debris.

Snow and ice made the basin difficult to locate. As our crew cleared access, we discovered an unusual built-in heating system similar to those used for heated driveways. Its power had tripped.

After identifying the interrupted power supply and getting the heating system working again, we were able to thaw the feature and restore operation.

This was a specialized system already installed at the property, not a standard pond de-icer. The job shows why learning how a feature was built—and documenting what we find—matters when diagnosing winter problems.
