Oxygen Is the Foundation of a Healthy Pond
Aeration increases dissolved oxygen levels throughout the entire water column — not just at the surface. Without it, ponds develop thermal stratification: a warm, oxygen-rich layer at the top and a cold, anaerobic "dead zone" at the bottom where sludge accumulates, toxic gases build up, and beneficial bacteria cannot thrive. Our subsurface aeration systems use a shore-mounted air compressor to push air through self-weighted tubing to disc diffusers on the pond bottom, creating a continuous lift of water that brings oxygen deep into the pond and releases surface gases. In winter, this keeps a hole open in the ice — essential for gas exchange and preventing winter fish kills.
Aeration System Components & Sizes
Air pump (compressor) — shore-mounted unit that pushes air into the pond; we carry four sizes for depths from under 1 ft to 6 ft, plus large custom units for ponds and lakes
Self-weighted tubing — heavy black tubing that transfers air from the pump to the disc diffusers; sinks on its own without anchoring
Disc diffusers — self-weighted diffusers that rest on the pond bottom and release fine bubbles that lift water to the surface
Manifold — used when running air to two or more diffuser locations from a single compressor
AP 100 — for ponds 3–6 feet deep
AP 40 — for ponds 2–3 feet deep
AP 20 — for ponds 1–2 feet deep
Small Aeration Unit — for ponds up to 500 gallons
Large compressor units — special order, sized by depth and pond volume, for large ponds and lakes
