Choosing Fish for Your Pond

The right fish choice depends on more than just appearance. Transporting New Fish

Fish are typically bagged for transport, but coolers are better for longer trips. It is also best to keep fish shaded and secure during transport, especially in warmer temperatures. For longer drives, protecting the fish from heat and direct sun can make a big difference.

• Add only a small number of new fish at a time so your pond can adjust.
• Float bagged fish before release so water temperatures can acclimate.
• Keep new fish secure and shaded during travel.
• Avoid overfeeding right away while fish settle into a new environment.

Seasonal Feeding Notes

Fish feeding changes with water temperature. Wheat germ foods are commonly used in cooler spring and autumn conditions, while regular or higher-protein food is used in warmer weather. Fish should not be fed when water temperatures are very cold. Feeding habits that make sense in summer are not always the same in colder months.
